O-rings are perhaps the most commonly used seals used in machine and equipment design as they are inexpensive and easy to make. O-rings are O-shaped rings of rubber used to prevent oil, water, air, gas or other fluids from leaking by fitting into an appropriate recess (or groove) of the equipment being sealed. O-rings may be used in static or dynamic applications where there is relative motion between the parts and the O-ring.
