The function of the spark plug is to draw thousands volts of high voltage into the combustion chamber, and to form the electric sparks which ignites gas mixture. Then, the ignition system could work in with the fuel system to make the engine work. Thus, we can say, the spark plug to a large extent, determines how well the the engine functions.
Reasonable is good for the ignition voltage stability. Electrode material must have characteristics like good thermal conductivity and high resistance to galvanic corrosion (mainly spark erosion) and chemical heat corrosion. Between the center electrode and the terminal screw is a conductor glass sealant, it is necessary to be able to conduct electricity, to withstand high-pressure combustion gas mixture, and to maintain the sealing. The spark plug is key component to ensure the engine combustible gas burning normally. Therefore, the quality of the plug is Closely related to the engines driving force, emission, and performance. For example, perfect spark plugs can extend engines lifespan as well as reduce the emissions of carbon monoxide and other harmful substances.
Iridium Center Electrode Delivers Maximum Spark Energy
Iridium Power® best demonstrates its performance improvement during acceleration. The world's smallest center electrode and specially shaped ground electrode delivers maximum spark energy while withstanding temperatures greater than 4000º F. These features combine to achieve higher ignitability and require lower spark voltage than ever before. As a result, acceleration improves in comparison with normal plugs.
Features:
Tapered cut
0.4mm iridium center electrode
360-degree laser welding assembly process
Benefits:
Required ignition voltage reduced
Unsurpassed center electrode durability
Available for many performance and power sports applications, including Corvette, Viper, and Harley-Davidson
DENSO IRIDIUM is the Ultimate Long-Life Spark Plug
DENSOs Iridium Long Life plug is fast becoming the standard for todays high-tech engines. The properties of DENSOs patented Iridium alloy have broken through the spark plug technology barrier. Employing a revolutionary new 360 laser welding process, DENSO has created a spark plug unlike anything on the market today. Designed for durability under the most extreme conditions, DENSOs patented Iridium alloy is six times harder and eight times stronger than conventional platinum and can handle temperatures in excess of 4,000F.
At DENSO, we bring together everything we know as an OE supplier to provide aftermarket spark plugs that truly are Better by Design.
IRIDIUM LONG LIFE - Platinum ground electrode. 0.7mm diameter Iridium center electrode.
100% PRE-FIRED - All DENSO spark plugs are 100% pre-fired to assure the highest quality possible.
The Long Life of DENSO Iridium IK20 Spark plug
The DENSO Iridium Long Life plug is fast becoming the standard for today's high-tech engines. Properties of DENSO's patented Iridium alloy have broken through the spark plug technology barrier. Employing a revolutionary new 360° laser-welding process, DENSO has created a spark plug unlike anything on the market today. Designed for durability under the most extreme conditions, DENSO's patented Iridium alloy is six times harder and eight times stronger than conventional Platinum and can handle temperatures in excess of 4,000°F.
DENSO's patented Iridium alloy is more durable than even Platinum, allowing the center electrode to be shrunk to only 0.7 mm in diameter. This produces a dramatic improvement in ignitability and spark plug life. DENSO's Iridium Long Life spark plug is standard equipment with a number of automakers including GM, Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi.

Spark Plug Installation Torque Settings
It is extremely important that the correct torque is used when installing spark plugs. If a torque wrench is unavailable then you must take care not to overtighten spark plugs - particularly if refitting after cleaning. Most spark plugs (flat seat and gasket type) have a 'crush washer' or gasket which becomes compressed during the initial installation, this allows around half a turn of the plug to be made once contact with the cylinder head has been made by the gasket. Subsequent reuse of the plug will allow only one twelfth of a turn to be made after contact. Failure to observe this will often result in a damaged plug or cylinder head - to the extent of fracture or thread stripping. At best, an overtightened plug will not perform correctly - the plug's internal components will be 'stretched' and may not be able to dissipate heat correctly thus effectively increasing the heat range of the plug (making it run hotter and possibly overheat, plug and engine damage can result).
If using a tapered (conical and with no gasket) seat plug type, after contact of the 'shoulder' or mating surface of the plug is made, only one sixteenth of a turn should be applied. This applies to both new and re-used taper seat type plugs (common in Ford engines). In certain circumstances tapered seat plugs can be prone to 'seizing', this applies especially to certain models of Ford Fiesta and Ka. The best way to guard against problems of this type is to remove plugs midway between recommended service intervals and ensure that any corrosion is cleaned up before replacing (ideally. replace with new plugs).
GAP ADJUSTMENT Of IK20 Spark Plug
The gap between the central and earth electrodes is an important factor for correct engine running as regards both, the loading, and the economy of the engine.
Incorrect settings of the gap can result in misfiring, engine power loss, fouling of the electrodes, etc. Becouse of the electro-chemical erosion, which is a normal development durning the operation, the spark plug gap should therefore be periodically checked and reset, if necessary, by bending the earth electrode only.
Such adjustments are limited by the basic geometry of the electrodes, so it is suggested that the spark plugs be replaced by new ones after 12.000 to 12.000km in case of fourstroke engines, or after 6.000 to 8.000km with two-stroke engines if full performance of the engine is to be maintained.
Recommended Torque and Tightening Angle for DENSO plugs
1.Use the correct wrench for the hex on the plug, and be careful not to damage the insulator.
2.When changing, make sure that the oil, etc. on the outside of the plug does not enter the engine interior.
3.When putting the plugs in, clean the engine side of the flange, and put in the plugs after making sure the gasket is in the flange.
4.Make sure the plugs are vertical, and tighten them by hand until they cannot be tightened any further.
5.Then, use a plug
