Toyota 5.7L engines with cartridge oil filters
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Using a 3/8” mounting stub of a socket wrench, remove the cover bolt from filter housing cap turning counter-clockwise. (Fig. 2)
2. Thread in plastic piece using appropriate tool to drain oil. CAUTION: Oil will exit upon insertion and may be hot. Prior to insertion apply hose to plastic piece to control flow. (Fig 3)
3. When oil flow stops, remove plastic piece by turning counter-clockwise using appropriate tool. (Fig 4)
4. Remove filter housing cap by using an oil filter wrench.
5. Remove used filter cartridge, large O-Ring, and small O-Ring (Small ORing is located under drain plug).
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Clean filter housing cap’s sealing and threading areas.
2. Apply clean engine oil to large O-Ring and install O-Ring back into its groove in filter housing cap.
3. Install new filter cartridge into housing cap.
4. Clean threaded area inside filter housing.
5. Install housing cap to engine by hand-tightening first, then tightening to 25Nm using a torque wrench
6. Apply clean engine oil to small O-Ring and install O-Ring back into its groove in filter housings cap.
7. Install cover bolt and tighten to 12.5Nm using a torque wrench. (Fig 5&6).
8. After adding oil and running engine for at least 2 minutes, check for any leaks.
