It provides smooth engagement and dampens engine vibrations. It can slide forward and backward on the shaft, but cannot rotate without rotating the shaft.Clutch pressure plate: The pressure plate contains a clutch plate, springs, cover and release fingers. Together with flywheel and friction disc, the clutch pressure plate forms a friction system and is mounted to the flywheel by bolts in the housing. It is a cast iron plate that provides a pivot fulcrum for the diaphragm spring, a friction surface for the disc and a mounting surface for the drive straps. Clutch cover: a steel stamping or casting that houses the clutch components and attaches to the flywheel.
